There are times, when user mailbox including entire emails and data just crash. Due to severe server errors or power sabotage or similar reasons, EDB files crash and we are left with neither emails nor backup. Not only does this situation scares us but has to be resolved as soon as possible.

Here is how to use Exchange 2010 recovery?

Unlike Exchange 2003 or 2007, where one had to create a Recover Storage Group, in Exchange 2010 one simply restores the database and connects it as a Recovery Database (RDB). In order to recover everything, one needs to have a good backup present. Now, when restoring the data redirect it to another location.

Once the recovery is complete, database and transaction logs reside at new recovery folder location. This folder should already exist before the recovery process starts, as Windows Server Backup does not create this folder.

This newly created database needs to be added in Exchange mailbox Server. Run the following command to create a recovery database:

New-Mailbox Database -Recovery -Name RDB1 -Server EX1 -EdbFilePath "D:\Recovery\Mailbox Database 1882717321.edb" -LogFolderPath "D:\Recovery"

Even if this is added, one needs to bring the server in clean shutdown state. For that, use ESEUTIL/R and perform the recovery process. Run ESEUTIL/P to repair the database and bring it to clean shut down state.

Using a manual method to recover corrupt and damaged EDB file may require in depth knowledge and lots of time. Third party Exchange 2010 Recovery software comes in handy at tough situations and helps users to recover entire user mailbox within moments. User friendly and easy to use graphical interface make this software an apt solution to recover EDB files and save them to new or existing PST files.

Enriched with three recovery modes namely, automatic analyze and repair, advance scan and rebuild corrupt database the Exchange 2010 Recovery proves its mettle by recovering even severely damaged database and permanently deleted files. It preserves the data integrity and attachments even after the recovery.
